Coleman J. Nee, Sr. 88, of Sarasota, FL passed away on July 16, 2024, surrounded by his
loving family. He was born on July 26, 1935, in Rosmuc, County Galway, Ireland, the son of
Patrick and Bridget Nee. Coleman was a proud professional truck driver and member of
Teamsters Local 25 primarily working for Hemingway Transport and Burke Distributors during
his 30+ year career. He was very involved with his church and community (Halifax, MA). He
held several positions in the community initially as Civil Defense Director, then Director of
Auxiliary Police, then Head of Special Police. He then became a sworn Constable of
Massachusetts and served Plymouth County. He met the love of his life, Mary McEvilly in 1957,
shortly after they both arrived from Ireland, at the Irish Dances in Boston. They married in 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (McEvilly) Nee of Sarasota, FL; his 8 children ~ son, Anthony
Nee and partner Claudia, daughter Anne Marie Barretto and husband Robert, son Norman Nee
and wife Lisa, son Paul Nee and wife Lynne, son Coleman Nee Jr., daughter Colleen Nee
Kinsman and husband Scott, son Walter Nee, son Eric Nee and wife Karen; 14 grandchildren ~
Shannon, Ciara, Nicole, Bridget, Hannah, Jonathan, Christopher, Ryan, Coleman III, Lauren,
Tara, Michael, Hayden, Lily; 4 great-grandchildren ~ Makayla, Thomas, Owen and Liliana; his sister
Barbara Keady and 10 other siblings who have passed on before him.
Family and friends are invited to attend Coleman's visiting hours Monday July 22, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. All are welcome to meet at Blanchard Funeral Chapel Tuesday July 23, at 8:00 AM and then proceed to the Our Lady of the Lake Church (575 Monponsett Street), Halifax for a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM. A burial will follow at Center cemetery, Pembroke.
