Gregory J. Carroll, 65, of Framingham, formerly of Shrewsbury and Worcester, died Sunday, July 14th at Oak Knoll Health Center surrounded by his loving family. He leaves a brother, Michael K. Carroll of Florida; six sisters, Colleen V. Subin and her husband, Joseph of Florida, Deborah J. Risotti of North Reading, Jeanne M. Carroll and her husband, Patrick Robinson of California, Jill C. Sargent and her husband, Harry of Sterling, Deirdre C. Donahue and her husband, Kevin of Auburn, and Patrice C. Fullen and her husband, David of Portland, ME; 15 nieces and nephews; and 20 great nephews and nieces. Besides his family he leaves his caregivers, and the communities at OpenSky, Alternatives, Oak Knoll Health Care, Harborside Hospice, and the Department of Mental Health. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, James Risotti.
He was born in Worcester the son of the late Dr. Joseph V. Carroll and Mary C. (McLaughlin) Carroll, graduated from St. Peter-Marian High School and attended Worcester State College. Gregory was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. His dedication to his county was matched by his dedication to his work and community. He found joy in serving the public as an usher at Showcase Cinemas. His friendly demeanor and warm smile made moviegoers feel welcome and valued. Gregory’s commitment to excellence extended to his work at Millbrook Distributors and beyond, where he was known for his reliability and hard work.
Greg was an avid sports enthusiast. He coached Community Youth Council basketball at Immaculate Conception Church, where he led his team to the championship. He enjoyed sharing his passion and knowledge with many young athletes and was named Coach of the Year. He loved sports, history, and most importantly, spending time with his family. His legacy is one of service, kindness, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His funeral is Thursday, July 25th with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. (Please go directly to church). Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
