John Daniel Ralls Jr. passed peacefully on December 7, 2023 at the age of 69. He was born on December 3, 1954 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn. to John and Eleanor Ralls.
He graduated from Fitch Senior High School 1972 in Groton. Then enrolled in General Dynamics’s (EB) apprentice program. Throughout his career, he worked as a draftsman for various naval agencies in the United States, and overseas in Scotland. Johnny was known for his exceptional skills in this field. In his later years, he worked at Medtronic Technology in Groton until retirement.
As a child, Johnny was very independent and adventurous. His mother often called him, “Beaver”, or “Beav” (for short) because he was always busy doing something, or getting into something. He was free spirited and a generous person. As a devoted son, he helped care for his parents in their senior years. Even when his health greatly declined, he still watched over for his mother.
In his spare time, Johnny enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, sports, and being with family and friends. As a youngster, he joined Groton’s Little League Baseball and continued playing in the intermediate league.
Johnny leaves behind two sisters, Ellen Jones and Barbara Ralls Turner; nieces and nephews: Joseph Jones III, Danielle Jones, Jared Jones, Jeremy Jones, Jennifer Thornton, and Christina Thornton., as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. He also leaves behind two brothers-in-law, Joseph H. Jones Jr. (Ellen) and Dr. Robert Thornton (Pamela).
Johnny is predeceased by his parents John D. Ralls Sr. and Eleanor Evans Ralls, and sister Pamela Thornton.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, July 25th at 10:30 am at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic, Conn. Please note if you’re unable to stand, please bring a lawn chair as seating is limited.
