Obituary

Ann Elizabeth (McGunigle) Hancock, age 83, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully at home in the care of her family and hospice on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

She was the beloved wife of former Tewksbury Fire Dept Lt. Allen J. Hancock who passed away on January 16, 2021, after 59 years of marriage.

Born on November 12, 1940, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, MA, she was a daughter of the late George E. McGunigle, Esq. and the late Madeline E. (Murphy) McGunigle. She was raised in East Boston and graduated in 1958 from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy High School in Brighton.

Ann worked for Suffolk Superior Court in the Probation Department and then worked in the Suffolk Superior Criminal Court Clerk’s Office until her retirement in 1998.

Ann was a communicant of St. Williams Church in Tewksbury. She was a member of the Oblate Associates, Adoration, Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, and St William’s Women’s ACTS.

Ann enjoyed spending time with her loving husband Al and their family. She enjoyed many summers with her extended family at their cottage in Deerfield, NH. She looked forward to her monthly dinners and seasonal trips with long-time friends Betty & John Duffill, and Lorraine & John Wilson as well as vacations with her sisters & brothers-in-law.

Ann was President of the Tewksbury Firefighter’s Wife Association. In addition, she also volunteered for many years at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) telethon held at the Oakdale Mall in Tewksbury over Labor Day weekend.

Ann is survived by her four children, Maureen Hancock of Tewksbury, Christine Donovan, and her husband, Joseph of Tyngsborough, Shawn Hancock and his wife, Alison of Tewksbury, and Timothy Hancock and his wife, Molly of Methuen; her son-in-law Michael Wood of New London, NH; her 6 grandchildren, Thomas Wood and his wife Ally Gama Wood, Ian Wood, Hannah and Brennan Hancock, Cieran & Declan Hancock; her sister Claire (McGunigle) Denahey of Concord, NH; her sisters and brothers in-law, Joanna Flashman of Naples, FL; Francis Hancock and his wife Marsha of Lincoln, NE; Bernard Nally of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

Ann was the mother of the late Charlene A. (Hancock) Wood, sister of the late Mary (McGunigle) Shone; sister in-law of the late Texann (Hancock) Nally, brother's in-law Joseph Denahey and Robert Shone.

The Hancock Family would like to thank, Ana Maria Guzman, Valerie Larose, Kelmy Espinal, Miriam Roche, Maureen DiPalma, Eileen Keane, Tania Guzman, Beacon Hospice including Ashley Wilcox, RN all who lovingly cared for Ann.

Family and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Rd. in Tewksbury. There are No Calling Hours.
