Obituary

Lowell - Luis C. Raposo, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Cedar View in Methuen after a period of declining health. He was the devoted husband of Maria (Castelo) Raposo, with whom he celebrated their 52nd anniversary earlier this year.

Born on December 20, 1946, in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, Luis was the son of the late Humberto Carvalho Raposo and the late Anatilde Inacio Raposo. He grew up in São Miguel, where he received his education and proudly served in the Portuguese Military. Following his service, he worked in his family's jewelry repair shop, honing a craft that would become his lifelong profession.

In 1971, Maria moved to the United States with her family, and Luis joined her in Lowell in 1972. They raised their family in the Back Central Neighborhood, actively participating in the Portuguese American Civic League, the "Red's Club," and the Holy Ghost Society of Azores in Stoughton.

Luis continued his family trade in Lowell, running Ourivesaria Acoreana, a jewelry repair shop, for many years. He also worked at Majilite and various liquor stores before retiring in 2014.

Luis was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He loved watching his beloved football club, Benfica, and took pride in maintaining and improving his home. Above all, he cherished his family, especially the time spent with his grandson, Dominic Luis Raffaelo, who was the light of his life.

Luis is survived by his loving wife, Maria (Castelo) Raposo of Lowell; his daughter, Michelle Raffaelo, and her husband, Christopher, of Lowell; and his cherished grandson, Dominic Luis Raffaelo of Lowell. He is also survived by his sister, Margarida Carvalho of Pawtucket, RI, and his brother, Fernando Faria of Providence, RI.

Additionally, Luis leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Teresa Torres and her husband, Delfino, of Pelham, and Leontina Castelo of Lowell; and his brothers-in-law, Antonio Luis Castelo of Montreal and Jose Castelo and his wife, Patti, of Lowell, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joao De Brito, who passed away at a young age, as well as his sister-in-law, Helena Castelo.
