Obituary

CHICOPEE – Patricia E. (Sawyer) Ogonowski, 72, of Chicopee Falls, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 25, 1951, a beloved daughter of the late Lester and Mary (Trainor) Sawyer. At a young age, she was adopted by her beloved great uncle and aunt, James and Ruth Dunnigan. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Springfield Technical High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Springfield Technical Community College, and moved to Chicopee in 1972 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a Medical Records Clerk for Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice and retired in 2015. Patricia enjoyed gardening, loved animals, and was always looking forward to decorating her home for the holidays. She had a special place in her heart for East Matunuck Beach in Rhode Island. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Melvin P. Ogonowski. They were married on August 26, 1972 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and they were blessed with over 51 years of happiness together. She also leaves her two loving and devoted daughters, Sarah J. Brandt and her husband, Paul Brandt Sr., of Monson, and Jessica M. Picard and her husband, Geoffrey Picard, of Chicopee; her six cherished grandchildren, Karly Dunn and her partner, Julius Santos, Paul Brandt Jr. and his partner, Abigail Parent, Olivia Dunn and her partner, Kali Spacek, Olivia Brandt, Erin Dunn, and Lillian Picard; her cherished great grandson, Brayden Parent; her two dear sisters, Patricia Walker and her partner, Donald Allen, of Springfield, and Jacqueline Bothelo of Rumfield, RI; her sister in law, Theresa LaBombard of Brimfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and many friends. She was also predeceased by her two dear sisters, Mary Cochran and Linda Sawyer; and her dear brother in law, William Bothelo. Her family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 5 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private.
