Obituary

Dimitrios "Jimmy" Voyiatzis, 71, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 16th in UMass Medical Center with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joanna (Gicas) Voyiatzis; his two sons, John Voyiatzis of Worcester and Nicholas Voyiatzis and his wife, Ashlee of West Boylston and his two granddaughters whom he adored, Kathryn and Mia. He also is survived by his two brothers, Petros Voyiatzis and his wife, Ronna of Leominster and Alexandros Voyiatzis and his wife, Maria of Worcester; his brother-in-law, Dean Gicas of Shrewsbury as well as god children, nephews, nieces, cousins and many, many friends.

He was born in Hrisohorafa, Serron, Greece the son of Ioannis and Chrysoula (Athanasiadis) Voyiatzis, and had served in the Greek Army before immigrating to Worcester to join his family. His entrepreneurial spirit lead him to establishing pizza shops in Palmer, MA, Burlington, VT, and Bellingham, MA. Jimmy also owned Pine Hill Plaza in Bellingham and currently owned the Hillside Grill at Hillside Plaza in Northborough, working with his son John. Jimmy will be remembered as being one of a kind. He loved to cook and was considered a great chef. His quick wit and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Jimmy was a long time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, the Order of A.H.E.P.A. and the Cultural Center Hrisohorafiton, Alexander the Great. His family extends their deepest gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses at UMass Medical Center for the compassionate care provided to him during his stay there.

His funeral will be held on Friday, July 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. His visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of the service in the Cathedral on Friday. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family with arrangements.
