Obituary

Sara (Puglisi) Piazza, age 91, of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15th at Woburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Raised and educated in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (DiGuardo) Puglisi. Sara graduated from St. Mary’s High School and went on to study at McIntosh Business School, after which she worked as a secretary and telephone operator.

Sara lived for many years in Lawrence with her first husband Frank J. Sambataro. After his passing, she married Salvatore J. Piazza in 1970 and they enjoyed 35 years together, moving to Wilmington in 1974. After Salvatore's passing, she remained in Wilmington and lived happily with her son Joe. Sara enjoyed trips to Nahant Beach, as well as walking in Wakefield Park. She was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed hosting family parties. Sara liked going out for a good meal, or preparing Italian specialties at home, and will be lovingly remembered for her stuffed calamari and veal parmigiana.

Sara was the devoted mother of Fred Sambataro and his wife Vicky, Connie Sambataro, Ann (Sambataro) Santos and her husband David, and Joseph Piazza. She was the loving grandmother of Ahren, David, Jessa, Nick, Serena, Joshua and Briel, and the cherished great grandmother of Caden, Cody, Louis and Brie.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Sunday, July 21st from 4 through 8 PM, and again on Monday at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
