Obituary

Virginia L. Duston, 101, of Hampstead, NH, passed away Monday July 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born on July 31, 1922 in Haverhill, MA, the daughter of Ralph and Helen (Hapgood) Green, and had been a resident of Hampstead for the past 99 years.

Virginia “Ginny” was very involved in Hampstead. She and her husband Donald owned and operated Don’s Market in town for nearly 15 years. Ginny is remembered as a 4-H leader, served as interim Town Clerk, one of the founders of the Hampstead Conservation Commission which involved preserving parcels of land for the town of Hampstead, member of the Hampstead Historical Society, responsible for helping to reestablish bluebirds in town, preserving her own farm in a permanent conservation trust, loyal friend to many, known as one of the Bean Supper Gals, always a gracious hostess, recipient of the Boston Post Cane as oldest resident in town.

She is survived by a son, Edwin Duston of Hampstead, one daughter, Catherine Baybutt (husband James) of Tamworth, NH; five grandchildren (Jennifer Ladieu, Duston Ladieu, Joshua Ladieu, step granddaughter Shar Laporte, step grandson Stephen Baybutt) and twelve great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald Duston and one brother, Ralph Green, Jr.

There are no calling hours. Following cremation, private graveside services will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead at a later date. Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry is handling the arrangements.
