Obituary

Patricia ‘Pat’ Rosetta (McLarnon) Amboian, 89 of Andover MA, entered her eternal rest on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family. Patricia was the beloved wife of the late John P. Amboian for 60 years, and the proud mother of her two sons and daughter, Michael E Amboian and his wife Patricia (Rook) of Methuen MA; John P Amboian Jr. and his wife Ann (Lee) of Winnetka, IL; Leslie (Amboian) Royce and her husband John Royce of Manchester, NH. Pat was the cherished grandmother (Nana) to her seven grandchildren; Michael Jr. and Megan Amboian; Andrew, Madison, and Alexander Amboian; Mitchell and Lucas Takessian, and was blessed to learn she was a great grandmother-to-be. Pat was a beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews, who were a constant joy to her heart.

Pat was born on March 21, 1935, in Lowell MA to the late John Patrick and Cecile Adeline (Mercier) McLarnon, the second of seven daughters. She is survived by her older sister Mary Mansur, her brother-in-law Duane Nesheim, and sister-in-law Sandra Boroyan. She was predeceased by her husband John Amboian, her sisters Nancy and her husband Phillip Thumm, Kathleen and her husband William McCarty III, Noreen Nesheim, Jacquelyn and her husband Joseph Stowell, Cecelia and her husband Maurice Maille, brother-in-law Francis Mansur, and sister-in-law Rose Amboian.

Pat was a proud member of her community, born and raised in Lowell MA, attending Lowell schools, graduating from Lowell High School, and later meeting her husband John at a Lowell dance. Through their dating years, they fell deeply in love and overcame some tribulations due to their different religious and heritage backgrounds. Their love was stronger than the obstacles and they were united in Holy Matrimony on June 7, 1959, at St Vartanantz Armenian Church in Lowell. They moved to Dracut with their young family before settling in Andover, MA in 1972 where they lived the rest of their years. During their marriage, John and Pat loved to travel. Some of the trips they enjoyed were to Hawaii, Armenia, Europe, the Middle East, and Florida. Their favorite places to travel were Illinois and California where they enjoyed being Nana and Papa by spending quality time with family and spoiling their grandchildren.

Converting to the Armenian Church in 1959 for marriage, the church became a significant part of Pat’s life. The friends she made through the church became her extended family. Pat was a devoted member of the Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church and was awarded the Saint Vartan Award in October 2013. Pat was a member of many church committees over the past 65 years. Serving the committees to ensure a successful banquet for the 75th anniversary of the Sts. Vartanantz Church is one that Pat took great pride in. She was a member of the women’s guild, sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the bazaar board, and was active on the parish council. She found great comfort from the church, and the church community, after her husband’s passing in 2019.

Pat enjoyed reading, music, dancing, playing competitive duplicate bridge, shopping, and always looking for a bargain. She would shop in any store and find the perfect nick-nacks, decor, shoes, and clothing. She also loved to window shop at the holiday windows of Jordan Marsh in the 1960s and 1970s, with every December including a picture of the children with Santa. However, Pat most notably will be remembered as a fashionista, a devoted follower of fashion. She was always stylish, whether going to exercise class, shopping, out to lunch, or out on the town, Pat always looked marvelous. One of her favorite pastimes was sharing in the shopping fun and teaching her bargain-hunting ways to her children and grandchildren. She will be missed and thought of each and every day.
