Obituary

CHICOPEE – Eleanor A. (Swords) Weeks, 90, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, July 13, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on September 10, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late, Walter P. and Hazel A. (Smith) Swords. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Springfield Technical High School, and moved to Chicopee in 1953 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a Home Health Aide for the Springfield Visiting Nurse Association. Devoted to her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a longtime CCD Instructor and Eucharistic Minister at the former Holy Name Church in Chicopee and a 33 years member of the Emmanuel Prayer Group in Springfield. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Franklin A. Weeks who was Called Home on January 22, 2009. They were married on December 26, 1951 at the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. She leaves her five loving children, Daniel M. Weeks and his wife, Donna, of Longs, SC, Alan P. Weeks and Michael J. Weeks and his wife, Gail, all of Chicopee, Patricia A. Courchesne of Northampton, and Mary E. Goulette and her partner, Andrew LeBlanc, of Southwick; her loving former son in law, David P. Courchesne of Chicopee; her 15 cherished grandchildren and many cherished great grandchildren; her dear sister in law, Patricia Swords of Westfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her cherished great grandson, Franklin Michael Bartlett; and her two dear brothers, William W. Swords and his wife, Dorothy, and Robert B. “Skip” Swords. Her Funeral will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
