Frances M. Mahoney, 88

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Frances M. (Cisternelli) Mahoney, age 88, of Mansfield, passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 14, 2024. She was the much-loved wife and best friend of the late William F. Mahoney, to whom she was wed for sixty-three years at the time of his death on November 28, 2022.

Born in Norwood, MA on May 9, 1936, she was a loving daughter of the late Peter and Julia (Troiano) Cisternelli.

Franny grew up in Walpole and was a 1954 graduate of Walpole High School. A dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, when younger she worked as telephone operator, cared for children as a daycare provider at her homes in Norfolk and Mansfield, and later, along with her late husband William, owned and operated a cleaning company in Mansfield.

A resident of Mansfield for the past forty years, Franny was a communicant and member of the Catholic Women’s Club at Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and was a former parishioner of Saint Jude’s Church in Norfolk, where she was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and taught Religious Education.

Franny’s greatest gift in life was her cherished family, whom she loved dearly. Her hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, singing, dancing to songs from the big band era and especially hosting family gatherings at her homes.

She is survived by her devoted children, Thomas W. Mahoney and his wife Susan of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Marie K. Lane and her husband Mark of Taunton, W. Joseph Mahoney and his wife Maria of Clarence Center, New York and Christopher H. Mahoney of Mansfield. She was the dear sister of Irene Consentino of Taunton, Edward Cisternelli and his wife Cathy of Walpole, Lee Ann McCusker and her husband Paul of Rehoboth and the late Alfred Cisternelli, Elizabeth Sundquist, James Cisternelli and Dorothy Cashen. She is also survived by her treasured 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, as well as her much-loved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, August 24th from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

A service in celebration of her life will be held at the conclusion of visitation on Saturday, August 24th at 12:00 Noon at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.
