Obituary




Gestimani (Tsapoukoglou) Sakaloglou, 89, of Worcester died Friday, July 12th at home surrounded by her family. Her husband of 51 years, Spiro Sakaloglou died in 2010. She leaves two daughters, Katherine Sakaloglou Gilantzis and her husband, Ilia of Worcester and Elizabeth Dinis and her husband, Anastasios of Greece; a son, George Sakaloglou of Holiday, FL; a brother, Andreas Tsapoukoglou and his wife, Kostantina of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Theodore, George, Donatos, Joana, Gestimani, and George; two step grandchildren, Eliana and Joanna; and three great grandchildren, George, Weston and Harper. She was predeceased by a brother, Spiro Tsapoukoglou; two sisters, Anastasia Tsapoukoglou and Patricia Ninos; and a grandson, Anthony Sakaloglou; daughter in law, Anna G. Sakaloglou.
She was born in Igoumenitsa, Greece and later immigrated to the United States. Gestimani was a cherished member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where she actively participated in its senior group and AHEPA. Her dedication to her faith and community was evident in her active involvement and the warm relationships she cultivated over the years. She worked at Brown Shoe, White Cleaners, and retired from Hersh Neckties
Gestimani found joy in gardening, cooking, knitting, and traveling to Greece. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family, and she was known as a caring, loving mother who always put her family first. Her warmth, love, and culinary delights will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and community. Gestimani’s legacy is one of love, devotion, and the simple joys of life. She will be dearly missed.
Her visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17th in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Gestimani’s name to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
