Obituary

Ligio T. DeSousa, 92 of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Lowell General Hospital.

He was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal on August 19, 1931 and was a son of the late Henrique T. and Silvina M. (Melo) DeSousa. He was raised and educated in Faial, until 1959 when he relocated to the United States, settling in Hartford CT. He lived in Hartford for most of his life in America before spending the last 20 years in Lowell.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church in Lowell and worked as an artist for over 50 years, specializing as an airbrush artist. His company contributed to creating the images for Pac-Man. He was an artist in every sense. He also painted landscapes, with a particular fondness for ocean scenes; and enjoyed drawing. He also enjoyed spending time gardening. Known for his outgoing nature and great sense of humor, he loved spending time with his family, especially on trips to Maine.

Ligio is survived by his longtime companion of the past 20 years, Honoria Waite of Lowell, their children, Susanna McCarthy and her husband, Thomas of Dracut, Sandra Desmarais and her husband, David of Dracut, Shawn Machado and his wife, Jennifer of Lowell, and Stephanie Borges of Dracut; his grandchildren, Ashley, Shana, T.J., Austin, Olivia, Nolan, Maya, and Ella; and his great grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers, Henry DeSousa of Lowell, Manny DeSousa and his wife, Lasallete of New Bedford, and Tony DeSousa and his wife, Francisca of Lowell; his sister in law, Lizete DeSousa of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Danny DeSousa who passed away in 2020; brother of the late John DeSousa; and brother in law of the late Manuela DeSousa who just recently passed.

On Monday, July 15, 2024 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9 a.m.. until 11 a.m.at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.
