CHICOPEE – Bertha A. (Rougeau) LaBarre, 94, of Chicopee, was called to Eternal Life on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. Bertha was born at home on Chapel Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on July 19, 1929, a beloved daughter of the late Felix and Donalda (Robert) Rougeau. Raised and educated in Chicopee, she lived in Holyoke, Springfield, and New Port Richie, Florida before returning to Chicopee in 2002. She was a Real Estate Agent for the Elaine Hamelin Real Estate Agency in Chicopee and served the children of Springfield for 14 years in the cafeterias of the Springfield School Department. Her passion in life was music and especially, her love of the piano. Her mission in life was to bring joy to others through her piano playing. Taught at an early age, she became a piano teacher in her late teens as part of the Bill Harry Music Studio in Holyoke. She then continued to play and perform for the next 75 years. Her greatest love, however, was spending time with her family and friends and if that involved a trip or a fun time, she was the first in line! She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Francis E. LaBarre who was Called Home on January 13, 2002. She leaves her four loving children, Donna M. Davin and her husband, Marty Jarosz, of Odenton, MD, Russell F. LaBarre of Temecula, CA, Edward J. LaBarre and his wife, Christina, of Belchertown, and Cynthia A. LaBarre of Granby; her eleven cherished grandchildren; her eight cherished great grandchildren; her dear sister in law, Joyce M. Rougeau of Springfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her beloved son-in-law, John Davin; her loving daughter-in- law, Chau (Nguyen) LaBarre; her dear sister, Estelle Tessier and her husband, Larry; and her two dear brothers, Felix C. “Phil” Rougeau and Rene Rougeau and his wife, Emily. Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday morning, August 17, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Visiting Hours will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will then follow at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. At the conclusion of the funeral, a luncheon will follow.
