GREER, Margaret Ada (Miller) of Wellesley, July 10, 2024.
“Meg” passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family after a 20-month fight against pancreatic cancer. She was 72 and had an extensive and loving family: Meg is survived by her husband Gordon T. Greer with whom she was married for 45 years. Meg and Gordon have two children: Dr. Burke T. Greer, PhD of Pacifica, California, and Marissa G. Kivett, CFP of Wayland, MA. Burke and his wife Dr. Renee L. Greer, PhD have two children, Helen and Alden. Marissa and her husband Gavin T. Kivett also have two children, Tuckerman and Clementine. Meg was most proud of, adored, nurtured, and doted on her children and grandchildren who were the center of her life.
Meg was born November 7, 1951, to James K. Miller III and Judith Ann (Beukema) Miller in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Both of Meg’s parents predeceased her. Meg leaves behind a large family including siblings and their spouses: John P. S. Miller and wife Marilyn of Higgins Lake, MI; Mark M. B. Miller and his wife, Karen, of Pleasanton, CA; Martha Jane Holman and her husband, George, of Reno, NV; James K. Miller IV and his wife, Tanya of Mill Valley, CA; Melissa A. Gosney, and her husband Brett, of Durango, CO. She cherished them and their families including many nephews and nieces who loved Meg.
Meg was a bright light to her community over her life. She was the best host, cook, tennis player, gardener, mentor, Girl Scout Leader, community organizer, and Michigan Football Fan in the eyes of her family, friends and neighbors.
We are proud of her career, achievements, and volunteer activities: She graduated from the University of Michigan (LSA) in 1973 with a BA in Journalism, and from Harvard Business School (HBS) in 1977. Upon her graduation from Harvard, Meg was hired as one of the first woman account executives at IBM. She later went on to own and operate local Gymboree franchises in the Boston area. These experiences seeded her career as a Financial Advisor and Vice President with Smith Barney, and later with Wells Fargo, from which she retired. She also was elected to the Wellesley School Committee and Wellesley Town Meeting. She was a member of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Prudential Committee, and as a lay reader. Meg enjoyed traveling across the world and visiting with her family in Michigan, Martha’s Vineyard, Florida, and California. And she enjoyed 35 years of membership to the Wellesley Country Club (WCC) where she played golf but especially loved, excelled and competed at bridge and tennis with her many dear friends. Meg, a student activist in the 1970’s, today cared deeply for woman’s rights (including a right to make personal health & reproductive decisions), and for rights and opportunities for immigrants in America.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 at 2PM EDT at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church in Wellesley Hills, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in honor of Meg be made to the National Network of Abortion Funds (AbortionFunds.org) or to the nonprofit of your choice.
