Werra, George E. Sr. 94 of Holbrook passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born on July 1, 1930 in Boston, the youngest son of the late John and Denise Guerra of Roxbury. George is predeceased by his parents and five siblings; John, Arnold, Joseph, Francis, and Dorothy (Lally). He was a proud native of Roxbury. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. In 1957, George married the love of his life, Helen McLaughlin, also of Roxbury. There they raised their oldest three children; George Jr, Helen, and Michael. In 1965, they moved to Holbrook and had their fourth child, Donna.
George was employed by Boston Steel before starting up his own window cleaning business, Wonder Window Washers. Both George Jr. and Michael worked for their dad for many years cleaning windows on many of the Boston skyscrapers.
George enjoyed playing hockey and was an avid Boston Bruins and New England Patriots fan. He loved the beach and spent many summer vacations in Dennisport on Cape Cod. In his spare time you could find him playing Bingo with Helen at a local hall or hanging out with friends at the Raynham Dog Track. George also loved to dance. He was a member of the Sons of Italy in Quincy, the Knights of Columbus in Holbrook and the VFW in Randolph. George and Helen loved spending time there with their many friends.
Cooking was one of George’s all time favorite things to do. He was the master of making homemade pasta. He and Helen enjoyed their time spent with family on Sundays enjoying well-prepared homemade sauce, meatballs, raviolis, and gnocchis.
George leaves behind his loving wife, Helen, of 67 years. He also leaves behind his son George Jr. and wife, Sandy of Rockland, Helen McBride and husband, Butch of Bridgewater, his son Michael and wife, Judy of East Bridgewater, and Donna Doherty and husband, Michael of Holbrook. He also leaves behind his dear grandchildren; Kayla and Brianna Doherty of Holbrook Michael, Stephanie, and Matthew Werra of East Bridgewater, and Stephen and Samantha Werra of Rockland. Sasha and Zoey, the family dogs, brought George great comfort at home. George will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A private family celebration of life will be held to honor and remember George. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children’s Boston or to your local MSPCA.
