Carmen Sarinana Crandall (Orozco) of Port Hueneme passed away from Congestive Heart Failure at Community Memorial Hospital on July 5, 2024. Carmen was born to Sofia (LaFuente) and Hilario Sariana in French Camp (Stockton area), California. She graduated from Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, California. Carmen followed her dad into the railroad business. She began working at Trona Railway in 1965 (Trona, California) until 1981 when she joined the Ventura County Railway in Oxnard, California. In 1986 became the first female President of a Short Line Railroad. She retired in 1999 and enjoyed her retired life with her husband, John, bowling, volunteering with Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a hand or two in AYSO youth soccer and enjoying her grandchildren. Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, her son Monty, brothers (Orozco) Lewis, Hilario, Jose, Johnny and sisters Dee (Branch), Alice, Sofia (Dominguez) and Ava (Fry). She is survived by her sisters Mary (Zeiss), Lucy (Rublas), Cherry (Joe Dominguez), Gloria (Richard Dominguez), brother Freddy, husband John, daughters Dixie (James Marshall) and Joy (Chris Abrams) and son Chris (Missy), grandsons Jeff Blyer, Kirkland Myers, James Marshall (Caitlin), Caleb Crandall and granddaughters Gina (Mike Kauppi), Grace Myers, Chantel Crandall, Tiffany Abrams and many great-grandchildren. She was also Grandma to many children and young adults of friends in the area, growing quite close to them and enjoyed following their careers. The Viewing will begin on Wednesday, 17 July from 3 to 7 PM, when personal remarks from friends can be received by the family at Joseph Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 757 East Main Street, Ventura. Services will begin on Thursday, 18 July at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura with personal remarks from the family at 11:30, the funeral mass to follow at 12 noon. Carmen’s 2 PM burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park 5400 Valentine Road (bring a sweater!). Carmen had several loves in her life, she liked purple, the Dodgers, Bowling, CMH Auxiliary and AYSO (soccer). You are welcome to wear something related to one of those subjects. Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, send donations in Carmen’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It is to honor her Great Grandchild who died very early in life of Leukemia.
