Obituary

Eunice White Healey. mother, writer, editor, teacher, health care director, died at Clifton Rehabilitative Nursing Center in Somerset, MA on Thursday, July 11, 2024 after a long illness. She was 95.

Mrs. Healey was born February 22, 1929, in Medina, NY, where she grew up and graduated from Medina High School in 1946. She attended Syracuse University and graduated with a B.S. in 1951, majoring in sociology. She had a yen for traveling which took her to Mexico, France and Italy where she did volunteer work with the American Friends Service Committee. Mrs. Healey, as part of a large international group, worked with community members in Santiago, Mexico to rebuild a village and in Siderno Marino, Calabria, southern Italy, to rebuild a small bridge. She married an Italian citizen and lived in Rome, Italy for five years, where she taught English, worked for an American magazine, and as an assistant to the director of an American bank.

She returned to the United States, working in New York City as a legal secretary for a senior partner in a large Wall Street law firm. She and her husband started a family and had two sons, Paul John and Marcus John.

As her children grew up, she decided to return to her roots in Medina, NY, later settling in Providence, RI where she did fundraising at Moses Brown School. In 1965 she married Edward Joseph Healey of Fall River, MA, now deceased.

She developed the first Homemaker-Home Health Aide Service of Greater Fall River and remained as its director for ten years.

The Edward Healeys moved to Westport, MA in 1972 and Mrs. Healey became involved in volunteer community activities. She served on the Town's Planning Board, as Treasurer for the Westport Historical Society, the Friends of the Westport Council on Aging, the Westport Council on Aging Advisory Board and later as a Director of the Council on Aging. She loved living in Westport and enjoyed gardening, reading, and time with family and friends. Her husband died in 1984. Later, in Westport, she developed a successful home-based secretarial service which she ran for 25 years.

In 1987, Mrs. Healey returned to school at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, MA, graduating in 1992 with a Master's Degree in Writing.

She is survived by two sons: Paul J. Healey and his wife Joyce of Somerset, MA and Marcus John Healey and his wife Joanne of Midlowthian, VA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister: Dorothy Cramer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was sister of the late Shirley Licata and Junior White.

Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9-10:30 A.M. prior to the Mass at Potter Funeral Home.

Burial will be private.
