LYMAN- John Michael Kirby, age 75, passed away Tuesday July 9, 2024, en route to Mercy Hospital - Fore River. John will be home once again with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to be reunited with his former family and friends.
John passed away July 9th due to unexpected complications due to chemotherapy.
John was born October 17, 1948, in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Nellie (Casto) Kirby (deceased) and Louis Kirby (deceased). He was the third of four boys; Richard Kirby, Ronald Kirby (deceased), and James Kirby. John served in the U.S. Air Force, serving one year in Iceland. John worked on radar and worked repairing military planes. After the military, John met and married Darlene Chappel; they had six children together.
John is survived by his children, Jason Kirby, Brian Kirby, Elaine Kirby (Ash), Rebecca Kirby (Wadja), Rachel Kirby (Miller), and Elizabeth Kirby.
He is also survived by many grandchildren.
After John and Darlene divorced, John met his latest wife Penny Kirby (Boothby), who became his eternal love. John moved to Maine and worked for US Postal Service - Scarborough. And Woodfords Family Services as a DSP for several years until he became ill.
John had also served as a Bishop in Bellevue, Nebraska for five years for the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. He also served in the Winter Quarters Temple for four years in Bellevue, Nebraska. He was a counselor in the elders quorum for the Cornish ward in Cornish, Maine. Up until his passing, John was working on indexing names for his temple to do proxy work for the deceased. His passion and desire was to one day meet his Lord and Savior and be welcomed home. Those who knew him will remember his quick wit and willingness to help others at a moment's notice. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
A graveside memorial will be held at Cedar Brook Burial Ground in Limington on July 16, 2024, at 2pm.
