James Edward “Jim” Herbst, 74, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Herbst at 12:00 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2024, at Andersonville National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Conway Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Prentice Hill, George Hill, David Barfield, Tyler Wilen, Cody Wilen, Bobby Manders and Billy Steed will serve as pallbearers.
Born January 27, 1950, in Merrill, Iowa, Mr. Herbst was the son of the late Edward Herbst and Nellie Mae Talbot Herbst. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jason Lee Herbst and Michael Hill; and two grandsons, Mason Meins and Jesse James Herbst. Before retiring, he worked in the petroleum industry; and he was a member of Believers Baptist Church in Tifton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Herbst is survived by his wife, Linda Lockerman Herbst of Tifton; four sons, Tom Herbst and Tim Herbst, both of Iowa and Prentice Hill and George Hill, both of Tifton; three daughters, Keisha Herbst Smith of Alabama and Kayla Herbst and Michelle Hill Barfield, both of Tifton; two brothers, Larry Herbst and Richard Herbst, both of Iowa; one sister, Laura Hudson of Indiana; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
