Obituary

Audrey Eileen Barnden (Harvey), aged 95, passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2024, in
Ventura, California. Born on January 24, 1929, in Wimbledon, London, England, she lived a
vibrant and full life marked by her fiery spirit and deep affection for her family.
Audrey and her beloved husband, William (Bill) Barnden, who preceded her in death, embarked
on a life together when they married on December 1, 1951, in England. Their adventurous spirit
led them to immigrate to Montreal, Canada, in 1956 with their two children, and eventually to
Southern California in 1961, where they made their permanent home.
Professionally, Audrey dedicated her life to medical transcription, working for various hospitals
and private offices. She reluctantly retired at the age of 80 from Community Memorial Hospital,
because of her age. Her commitment to her work was paralleled by her passion for knitting, a
skill through which she touched many lives by crafting blankets for hospital-born babies and
those born into her circle of family and friends. Audrey, alongside Bill, enjoyed an active life
filled with lawn bowling, golf, world travel, card games, and sharing beloved British recipes.
She is survived by her son, Keith (Marsha), and daughter, Christine (Peter); grandchildren,
Jennifer (Jacob), and Adam (Grace); five great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Weston, Maci, Hayleigh,
Aiden; and is expecting a new great-granddaughter in August. Audrey was also preceded in
death by her parents, Beatrice and Augustus Harvey, her sisters, Mary Townsend and Doris
Harvey, and her brother, Robert Harvey.
In line with her wishes, there will be no services. Audrey supported The Coalition for Battered
Women and St. Jude’s Cancer Treatment Center, and contributions in her memory can be made
to these organizations. The arrangements are being handled by the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE in Ventura, California. Audrey’s legacy of warmth, generosity, and resilience will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
Her family would like to pass their deepest gratitude to Buena Vista Hospice for their
compassion and care during this transition.
