Obituary

Ruth Lenora (Eller) Stone, 93, of Anderson, passed away peacefully at Keystone Woods on Saturday July 6, 2024.

She was born in Swayzee, Indiana, on April 1, 1931, to Kenneth and Bessie May (Berry) Eller. Ruth met her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Wilbur Gene Stone, at Fairmount High School, and they both graduated in 1949. Ruth married Gene on August 29, 1951, and was a devoted wife for 62 years until his passing in 2014.

Ruth's greatest accomplishment is her children: David (Lisa) Stone, Vicki (Phil) Simpson, and Debbie (Tim) Vermillion. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Seth Stone, Emily (Lance) Cole, Krystal Vermillion, Matt (Brittney) Vermillion, and Cully Simpson. She adored her great-grandchildren: Kelty, Levi, J.J., Bentley, Lenora, Holden, and Runi. Making memories with her family brought her extreme joy and a blessed life. Ruth, was fortunate to have Phyliss Martz as a dear friend for over 79 years. The two were like sisters and shared much together.

Ruth was a homemaker who served her family, friends, church, and community selflessly by volunteering at Anderson Christian Center for 27 years, Mounds State Park, the American Red Cross, Turtle Creek, and Mounds Baptist Church for many years with a servant’s heart. Ruth was awarded Hometown Hero from the Herald Bulletin in 1999 for her volunteer work.

Ruth enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, and hosting card parties. She was a loyal fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers, never missing a game. Ruth loved making her popular cookies and salsa for her family to enjoy. She was grateful for her time at Keystone Woods, where staff and residents became friends and like family to her in recent years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Gene in 2014, her son David in 2024, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Chaplain Brian Farnsley officiating. The burial will follow in Bronnenberg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00am-11:00am on Wednesday at the funeral home.
