John F. Gendall, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2024, surrounded by his close family and friends, after a lifelong courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy.
Born on November 30, 1954, “Jay” was 69 years old. John was the son of the late John F. Gendall, Sr. and Dorothy A. Gendall (Haley) and the treasured brother of Dr. Cynthia A. Basteri.
John graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School, Class of 1972, and attended Fitchburg State University. He continued to work in the field of quality control until his physical disability forced him into an early retirement.
His Catholic religion was the center of his life. John attended Mass daily on Boston Catholic TV and his rosary was his constant companion. John lived his faith and was kind, compassionate, and generous to everyone who knew him. He had the highest moral standards and code of ethics.
In addition to his immediate family, “Jay” was a dear uncle to John D. and Joseph P. Onoroski, and grand uncle to Adam, Gabriel, and Lilith Onoroski. He also leaves his uncle and aunt, Charles W. and Lorraine Haley of Falmouth, MA, who were also his godparents.
Jay’s lifelong circle of close family and friends will also miss him dearly. In addition, the family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his caregivers, Jennifer Brown and Ivelisse Crespo.
Family and friends are welcome to attend his wake at the Farmer and Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, MA, on Wednesday, July 10, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral procession will begin on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. William of York Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, in Tewksbury, MA. Donations in John’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
