Obituary

Herminio F. Simoes, 70, of Lowell, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Isolete (Conde) Simoes with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage.

He was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on September 17, 1953 and was a son of the late Manuel Simoes and the late Evangelina Simoes. He was raised and educated in Terceira, serving in the Portuguese military, stationed in Angola. He worked on his family farm for many years before relocating to the United States in the 1970’s, settling in Lowell where he remained for the rest of his life.

Once in Lowell, he was a hard worker in many factories including Interstate Container, Joann Fabrics, Americraft, and Prince Packaging, until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, loved going out to celebrate feasts and carnivals yearly. He had a good sense of humor.

Herminio is survived by his two sons, Luciano Simoes and Marco Simoes, both of Lowell; his grandchildren, Luciano, Aria, Scarlett, Louis and Greyson; a sister, Maria Da Conceciao Pires and her husband, Leonardo Nunes Pires of Terceira; a brother, Antonio Simoes of Canada; his niece, Maria Arseneault and her husband, Brian of Lowell; and his nephew, Rui Leite and his wife, Neya of Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, the late Joao Simoes; and the late Juventino and Valentina Leite, and the late Bartholemew and Leonilde Conde.

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9-11 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. His funeral mass will be offered at 12 noon at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell; followed by burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
