Obituary

HOLLIS- Richard Binette, 80, of Hollis, ME died peacefully on July 6, 2024, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough after a lengthy illness.

Richard was born on March 10, 1944, in Biddeford, ME to Ludger “Jerry” and Pauline (Roy) Binette. He graduated from St. Louis High School in 1961 and shortly thereafter joined the United States Air Force where he served for 4 years. Following his military service, Richard was employed by Saco Defense, Inc. (formerly Maremont Corp.) in Saco, ME for several years. He made his home in Hollis with his wife Sharon and after retirement they enjoyed their second home in Boca Raton, FL.

Richard had a deep love of music and enjoyed cooking, playing softball, and watching the Boston Red Sox and Bruins. He was an avid golfer, winning the Salmon Falls Country Club 2011 Super Seniors Championship. Richard was always quick with a joke and enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren, whether it was talking like Donald Duck or playing “got your nose”. Most Friday nights you could find “Chef Lalo” in the kitchen creating one of his delicious pizzas or experimenting with different recipes.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sharon, Stepdaughter, Bonnie Dee Hayes and sister Elaine Toussaint.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Lorri Hill of Bow, NH, Carri Brown of Biddeford, ME and stepchildren Scott Hayes and Kristen Harrington. He is also survived by grandchildren Logan Cox, Broc Glover, Bryce Collette, Courtney (Binette) Creighton and six great grandchildren Sharlett, Violet, Kalliope, Logan Jr., Sadie and Walker, as well as sister Judith Chretien, brother Ludger R. Binette, several step-grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all of the nurses on the C Unit at the Maine Veteran’s home that cared for Richard these past few years. Your compassion, dedication and love for him will never be forgotten.
