BUXTON – John Maurice Lowell, Sr., age 90, peacefully met his Lord on July 4, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his dearest family. He was born in Blue Hill, Maine on April 25, 1934, a son of the late Fred Whitney and Beatrice (Demmons) Lowell. John grew up in North Penobscot, Maine attending Bucksport High School, and graduated in 1952. He moved to Wiscasset, Maine in 1955, where he met his future bride, Charlene Soule, while playing softball at a church function, later that same year. They were married in 1959, and their commitment to each other and their church never wavered. For 33 years he worked as a caretaker for a private employer, retiring in 1999. Following his retirement, he spent the next 2 years in a foreperson capacity, as he literally helped to build a church that he had figuratively helped to build his entire life. A devotee of road trips, John drove everywhere. In addition to family vacations, he will be remembered as the bus driver of countless trips transporting church youth groups and singing groups. He is predeceased by a sister, Leone Howard, who passed away in 2005. John is survived by his beloved wife, Charlene (Soule) Lowell; his children, Linda Milling and her husband Fred of Buxton, John Lowell Jr., and his wife Tanya of Lyman; three grandchildren, Shannon Mains and her husband Adam, Mark Allen and his wife Kayla, and Thomas Lowell; and six great grandchildren.
