Obituary

On July 3, 2024, beloved wife, mother, Nema, and friend, Mrs. Bonnie Johnston found peace with her Lord after a long battle against congestive heart failure.

Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, at New River Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Michael Marchant and the Rev. Gerald Purvis officiating. Mrs. Johnston will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Webb Johnston, Daniel McCoy, Jeremiah Giduturi, Jared Hunt, Jonathan Pless and Brandon Ross will serve as pallbearers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W. M. and Emma Ruby Goode; two brothers, Hollis and Wallace Goode; her sister, Diane Berry; and her great-grandson, Noah McCoy.

She is survived by her husband, Benny,; her two children, Andrea Wharam of Culloden and Alan Johnston (Donna) of Tifton; her brother, Gene Goode of Macon; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Alison McCoy (Daniel) of Culloden, Erika Giduturi (Jeremiah) of Forsyth, Rachel Hunt (Jared) of Macon, Eden Pless (Jonathan) of Forsyth, Jill Ross (Brandon) of Ocilla, Webb Johnston (Lainey) of Tifton and Tru Johnston of Tifton; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Born and raised in Tifton, she met and married the love of her life at New River Baptist Church. Benny and Bonnie were active members of New River Baptist Church in Tifton during their entire marriage of sixty-three years. She was a homemaker.

To say she will be missed is a great understatement. To know her was to be loved, and you could not help but love her in return. The epitome of a servant’s heart, she never failed to display God’s love to those around her. Kind to everyone, and loyal to a fault, that spitfire of a woman will forever be missed. We love you to the moon and back, Nema.
