Obituary

WEBSTER – James J. Clyne, 75, died Sunday, June 30, 2024 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester with his family at his side.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Maryann (Weidner) Clyne; 3 children, Kathleen G. Clyne of Uxbridge, James M. Clyne and his wife Angela of Hartwick, NY, and Daniel J. Clyne and his wife Tiffany of Webster; 7 grandchildren, Jessica, Mikayla, Joseph, Aidan, Ronan, Griffin and Rian; a brother, John Volkmer and his wife Jaime of Pittsfield; a sister, Veronica Elwonger and her husband Les of Trinity, FL; nephews and nieces.

He was born on March 17, 1949 in Manhattan, the first child of Eugene and Helen (Watterson) Clyne and was raised in Sayville, NY. He graduated from Sayville High School in 1967 where he played on the varsity football team. He lived in Longview, TX and Las Vegas, NV before moving here in 2019.

He served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Clyne worked as an EMT helicopter pilot for Flight For Life in Las Vegas before retiring in 2015.

He enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword puzzle in ink. He was a fan of “Jeopardy” and occasionally played golf. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY with full military honors. Donations in his name may be made to either the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516, or to Tunnel To Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
