Dorothy “Jean” Harper Nolen, 89, of Omega passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at her daughter's residence in Moultrie. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Rickey Wells officiating. Mrs. Nolen will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Nolen’s family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Born January 14, 1935, in Irwin County, Mrs. Nolen was the daughter of the late Willie Bill “Slim” Harper and Madelene Griffin Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 ½ years, Ellis C. Nolen; and two sisters, Maxie Mae Harper Pitts and Antley Stephens. Before retiring, she was a seamstress at Fitzgerald Underwear Corporation in Tifton and also worked for Queen Carpet and the Blue Ridge Shoe Company.
She loved spending time with her family and cooking with her grandchildren. Two of her specialties were cornbread dressing and coconut cake.
Mrs. Nolen is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Danny Moncrief of Moultrie; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Roger Wendell “Buddy” Nolen of Omega and Terry Brian Nolen and his wife, Angie Burroughs of Norman Park; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
