Mark Stephen Mitchell, age 67, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at his home in Myrtle Beach, SC with his loving wife of 12 years, Christine, by his side.
Mark was born on March 7, 1957 in Boston to Dr. Avard and Marjorie (Clock) Mitchell of Wellesley. After graduating from Wellesley High School in 1975, Mark joined the Army at age 18 and served in the Military Police at Fort Hood, Texas. When he left the Army, Mark attended UMass Amherst, where he earned a mechanical engineering degree. He started his career at General Electric in Pittsfield, MA, and concurrently earned an MBA degree from Union College. Mark subsequently moved to California to work as an independent contractor for several years. Eventually, Mark and a business partner moved to Garden City, SC, where they built and ran Maze Mania for seven years. After selling the Maze business, Mark worked as an independent property developer in the Myrtle Beach area for many years.
Mark was an avid sports fan who loved watching all sports but especially enjoyed following the New England Patriots. Mark enjoyed spending time with friends, walking on the beach, reading a good book and traveling. Mark was an animal lover as well as a great storyteller. He will be dearly missed by his many loyal lifelong friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Christine, her daughter Daniella Godina (Manny), mother Marjorie Mitchell, sister Susan Lewis, two brothers Dean Mitchell and his partner Kim Knox, and David Mitchell, nephews Andrew Woodward (Kathleen), Christopher Woodward, and Joshua Park, along with an extended family. Mark was predeceased by his father Avard Mitchell and brother Eric Mitchell.
Burial will be private in Wellesley. Memorials can be made to the Grand Strand Humane Society in Mark’s name at
