Obituary

BRISTOL ---- Herbert E. Ramsey, 68, of North Main Street, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Mass General, in Boston, MA.

Herbert was born on January 29, 1956, in Laconia, NH, the son of the late John Ramsey, Sr. and Shirley (Plummer) Ramsey.

Some people called him Herb, others called him Herbie. Growing up though everyone knew when he was in trouble when they heard ‘Herbert” come out of his parent’s mouth.

Herb was a lifelong resident of the area where he attended Bristol Kindergarten, Bristol Elementary School, and Newfound Memorial High School. Growing up he could always be found outside with his siblings along with the neighborhood friends whether it was riding bikes, skateboarding, playing baseball, swimming in the river, climbing trees and just hanging out together and having fun. He also liked to fish and hunt.

He spent countless hours years ago riding around on his Harley along with several of his close friends who also owned motorcycles.

Herb worked different jobs throughout life beginning with Plankey’s Sawmill, and then on to JPS Enterprises, Simula Logging to name a few. Most of his years were spent working as a logger and he then became the proud owner of his business “Ramsey Logging”. He eventually decided a couple years back he had had enough of logging and retired from that type of work. He then went on to work part time for the Alexandria Transfer Station.

He lived in both the Danbury and Alexandria area years ago before settling back in his hometown of Bristol. He then met Shellie and they settled down and built a life together.

Herb is survived by his loving partner of 19 years, Shellie Smith, of Bristol, NH, his brother John Ramsey, Jr. and his significant other Amy Iqbal, of Hooksett, NH, sisters Susan and Richard Tallman, of Northfield, NH, Joan and Charlie Cole of Danbury, NH, and several nieces and nephews.

At this time there will be no services.

The family suggests for those who wish, donations can be made to the NH Humane Society, 1305 Meredith Center Road, Laconia NH 03246 in memory of his furry friend Moxie.
