David P. McDonnell, 65

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

David P. McDonnell, age 65, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the Boston Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Leslie A. (Pasch) McDonnell, to whom he was happily wed for twenty-two years.

Born in Brockton, MA on February 11, 1959, he was a loving son of the late John T. and Julia M. (Sheehan) McDonnell.

David grew up in Brockton and was a 1977 graduate of Brockton High School. He continued his education and received a certificate in electronics from the Southeastern Regional Technical School in Easton.

A resident of Mansfield for the past thirty-nine years and a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Mr. McDonnell was employed as a van driver for the Town of Sharon Transportation Department, recently retiring in February of 2024.

David’s family was always the center of his attention and he was ever-so-proud of his Irish heritage and trips to Ireland. His hobbies included playing drums from his childhood years, martial arts and had a special interest in WWII aviation. He enjoyed building model WWII planes and was an avid car enthusiast, Ford Mustang’s being his favorite. David was also a loyal lifelong fan of the New England and will always be remembered for the special place he held in his heart for animals, especially cats.

In addition to his wife, he was the dear brother of Maureen F. Cook and her husband Harry of Mansfield. He was the cherished uncle of Jennifer Kinney of Mansfield, Elizabeth Cook of Mansfield and the great uncle of Sean Kinney of Mansfield and Christopher McKenna of Mansfield.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11:30 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.

Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Mansfield Shelter Friends, P.O. Box 25, Mansfield, MA 02048.
