James R. Dinsel, 74

Dateline: Norton, MA

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, James R. Dinsel of Norton stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ. Jim was born May 29, 1950 in Altoona, PA. He was the son of the late Louis and Grace Dinsel. Jim moved to Massachusetts in 1975 and was married to the former Deborah Reade until 2007. He was known for his kindness towards others, often helping those in need by contributing to GoFundMe and local charities.

Jim served in the United States Army, having spent 14 months in Vietnam with the 504th military police battalion. Jim then went on to serve 21 years as the Norton Director of Human Services/COA, from which he retired. He also served as a member of the Norton Housing Authority for 21 years. He was a member of the American Legion of Norton and a life member of the Norton VFW. Jim was a founding member of the Norton Cupboard of Kindness and he also served for 20 years as a member of Bristol Elder Services.

He is survived by his daughters, Erin Minich and her husband Chris of Pennsylvania and Jennifer Rippett and her husband Thomas of Maine. He was preceded in death by his son, Nathan. He is survived by his cherished and loving grandson, Carson, whom he worshipped and dearly loved. He is also survived by his grandchildren DJ, Erilynn, and Austin of Maine. He is also survived by his best friends Tino Mendieta and James Ruddy of Mansfield, who were so kind and generous during his most difficult times. He was preceded in death by his late siblings, Deborah, Darlene, and Robert. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special kitty, Feliz.

Jim enjoyed trips to Mohegan Sun, Plainridge Park Casino and Foxwoods. He also enjoyed playing bingo with all his friends at the Woodland Meadows community hall.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, July 1st from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial, along with military honors, will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
