MEREDITH ---- Leo ‘Patrick’ McGrath, 93, of Meredith passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home with his wife Madeline by his side.
Pat was born on August 14, 1930, in Laconia, NH, the son of the late Leo McGrath Sr., and Stella (Clement) McGrath.
Pat was a 3-sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball) while attending Laconia High School. He attended Ithaca College for one year on a baseball scholarship before leaving to join the Navy and serve aboard the USS FDR. When he completed his tour, he married Madeline Roux and proceeded to graduate with a BS degree from UNH. Pat served as the Controller for Pike Industries and Persons Concrete where he finished his career.
Pat and Madeline were avid travelers, visiting special places across the world together including Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Australia, Switzerland and South America. He loved playing golf and skiing with family and friends. Pat was a member of Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He was a long-time member of Laconia Country Club, and you could find him skiing the hills of Gunstock during the winter months. He was a passionate sports fan, especially of the Celtics and Red Sox. Pat loved relaxing and admiring the Lake and Mountains from his home of over 50 years on Lake Winnipesaukee and the ocean waves in Florida where he and Madeline spent many winters. Pat had a love of water from his time in the Navy and from living on the lake and ocean, but you wouldn't catch him ankle high in the water.
Pat is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Madeline (Roux) McGrath of Meredith; his four children, Richard McGrath and his wife Paula, of Chicago, IL, Gary McGrath and his wife Amy of Westford, MA, his daughters Patti (McGrath) Rocco and her husband Ed of Gilford, NH and Kelli (McGrath) Hesseltine and her husband Scott of Gilford, NH, and his sister Mary M.
