Obituary

Arthur Joseph Tanguay, Sr., 91 of Lowell, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford after a long battle with Alzheimer's and kidney disease. He was the widower of the late May Lena (Leno) Quebec, who passed away in 1999.

He was born October 30, 1932 in Lowell, and was a son of the late Joseph and Laura (Ryan) Tanguay. He was raised in Lowell, where he attended the area schools.

After high school, he enlisted with the United States Army serving for two years, stationed in Germany, before his discharge.

Arthur worked as a roofer and side waller his entire life. He also worked as a bartender at McCullough’s and Butches Bar for many years. He was a gifted singer and will be sorely missed. He was a member of the Lithuanian Club, the Polaski Club.

Arthur is survived by his children, Laura L. Tanguay of Lowell, Arthur J. Tanguay Jr. of Lowell, Robin Tanguay of Dracut and Darlene St. Marie of Lowell; his sister, Jeanette C LaVoie of Florida; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, including Amanda Diamantopoulos, who was very special to the family her love and support will never be forgotten; and four great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Alfred, Rita, Raymond, Jared, Paul, Laura, Leo, and Blanche; and the love of his life, Doris St. Marie with whom he spent 55 years together.

On Friday, June 28, 2024 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. His funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 12 noon.
