David L. Lawson, of Ojai, passed away June 24, 2024 at the age of 82. David wrestled a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and fought a valiant fight. He had many visitors in the last few weeks from friends and family before he met His Lord face to face.
David was born to Gladys Irene and Edward Paul Lawson in Fillmore on January 18, 1942. David’s family were ranchers in the Ojai area for many years. He was loved as a husband, son, brother, father and grandfather. His family sat under the ministry of Sister Ruby Mae Savage at the Four Square Church in Ojai for several decades. David was rooted and grounded in the Christian faith and loved His Lord Jesus. In 1985, he became a member of the Assembly of God Church in Meiners Oaks, now known as Redemption Church, where he and his wife, Mary Ann, have been members for 38 years.
David was passionate about organized softball and played for many years in the Ojai Valley and Ventura County. He also coached a church league team. He was a college football fanatic and followed the UCLA Bruins faithfully.
David’s career in sales followed his 2 year service in the U.S. Army. He sold furniture at a high- end furniture store, then moved on to a career in selling title insurance in the real estate field. He eventually decided to try his hand at real estate and pursued and passed his real estate licensing test. He worked in the real estate field at the Better Homes & Gardens office in Ojai. Ever changing, David saw the need for home repairs and began working as a Handy Man, becoming The Handi-Craftsman.
David is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Ann Lawson, his children, David Jr., Tina, and Kasey; his grandchildren, Brittany, Madison, Savannah, and Annie, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Ventura. David will be laid to rest at the Carpinteria Cemetery in a private service. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at Redemption Church at a future date to be announced.
