Obituary

John J. Mahoney, Jr., a 54 year resident of Wellesley Hills, MA died June 14, 2024. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Florence Ellen (F. E.) Pyne, their son, Jonathan P. of Wellesley, their daughter, Daphne C. Bytnar and her daughter, their beloved, Elaine E. (Lainey) of Denver. He is also survived by two loving nieces, Nancy (Feaster, Shackley) Douglas, her husband Fred of Morris Plains, NJ and her son, Michael Shackley, his son, Michael Shackley and their daughter, Diane Douglas, her partner, Matthew Cyphert, their son, Charles Cyphert of Argyle,Texas and Carol (Feaster) Bock, her husband, Joseph and their son, Daniel of Belmar, NJ and loving nieces and nephews, spouses and their children in his wife’s family.

John was pre-deceased by his parents, John J. and Ruth (Ursula) M. DeSavache of Quincy, MA and a sister, Arline (Feaster, Nagle) of Mountain Lakes, NJ.

John graduated from Tufts University in 1957. He entered the US Navy as a Gunnery/Deck officer aboard the USS Hassayampa in the Pacific 7th fleet. In 1960, he commenced his 60 year business career as a manager, founder and owner of a number of companies serving the electrical, electronic industries. They included-Sigma Instruments/Fisher Pierce, Gulton Industries, AMF, Inc., Inforex, Wheelabrator-Frye, J. I. Paulding, Pacific Scientific and Danaher Corp.

John was an avid reader, enjoyed classical music and painting water colors. Recreational sports were a large part of his life: tennis, sailing, downhill skiing and swimming. He was a long time member of the Brae Burn Country Club, Newton, MA and the Beverly Yacht Club, Marion, MA - both known for their high levels of camaraderie. Their sailboat was moored in Marion and was used for cruising Buzzards Bay, Nantucket Sound and the Islands; and on occasion was augmented by larger chartered boats in Maine and the Caribbean.

Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Thursday, June 27, from 4-7PM. Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, June 28, at 9am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
