Obituary

James F. Lyons, Jr., 87, of Worcester died Thursday, June 20th at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves two daughters, Heather Catanzaro and her husband, Jonathan Catanzano, and Iris Lyons and her husband, Brendan Melican all of Worcester; two sisters, Kathleen Plummer and her husband, Col. Frank Plummer of Texas, and Marilyn Riccio of Florida; two grandchildren, Ashley Fritz and Oliver Melican; three great grandchildren, Jordan Prunier, Jayce Fritz, Jiovanni Fritz-Velazquez; and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce M. (Carlson) Lyons; a brother, Stephen Lyons; and brother-in-law, Vincent Riccio.
He was born in East Boston, the son of James F. Lyons, Sr. and Helen (Rothwell) Lyons. He attended Dorchester High School and graduated from Worcester State University. James worked many years at Wright Line and Mass General Hospital as a computer programmer. He also worked as a cab driver in Worcester for many years.
James was known for his love of reading and his adventurous spirit, always ready to explore new destinations. He spent his life immersed in books, finding joy and solace within their pages. His passion for reading was matched only by his love for travel. James had a special fondness for warm destinations, always traveling by bus to enjoy the sun and to discover new places.
His travels were not limited to local excursions. James had a deep curiosity about the world, which led him to explore the United States, Canada, and Europe. His journeys across these vast and varied landscapes provided him with countless stories and cherished memories that he shared with family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Ascend Hospice Team. Especially to Christina B. who went above and beyond for the family.
