Gayle Harding, age 90, joined her late husband, Thomas ‘Sonny’ Henry Harding Jr. in heaven on June 17, 2024. Gayle entered the world on January 7, 1934, and resided in South Boston throughout her adult life. It is in South Boston that Gayle lovingly raised her three children; Lynn Laffan of Arizona, Thomas H. Harding III and his wife Denise of Norwell, and Carol Harding of Sagamore Beach. Gayle is survived by her five grand daughters: Alison Laffan, Audrey Hutzler and her husband Jason, Sarah Thomas and her husband Steven, Amanda Toner and her husband Garrett, and Sunny Harding. Each of Gayle’s grand daughters brought her great joy. Gayle was equally delighted by the births of her two great grandsons; Lucas Hutzler and James Toner. Gayle had seven sisters. Four of her sisters preceded her in death: Noreen Rial, Madeline Healey, Loretta Gibbons, and Claire Tardanico. Gayle is survived by her sisters: Jacqueline McCann of Pembroke, Margarita Miller of Florida, and Paula Martinez of Braintree. Gayle was a civilian employee for the Boston Police Department serving at District 4 in the South End of Boston. In her spare time Gayle was an active participant and volunteer in the Castle Island Association, the South Boston Senior Center, and the South Boston Yacht Club. Gayle enjoyed many performances and exhibits of the Boston Symphony and the Museum of Fine Arts. Gayle also enjoyed many simple things in life. She loved to be near the ocean and smell the salt air. Watching the boats navigate through the harbor brought her much contentment. On most days one could find Gayle completing a puzzle and working on word games. More than anything, Gayle is defined by her deep faith in Christ our Lord and her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her strong nature and feisty personality carried her through life and was most appreciated by her loved ones. She will be deeply missed by all and her wisdom will have a profound impact on her family for years to come. Mass in celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Brigid Church, 845 East Broadway, South Boston to be followed by luncheon.
