Obituary

Wilbur Johnson, 72, of Tifton passed away Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ronny Vice and the Rev. Randy Gay officiating. Mr. Johnson was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Freddie Bentley, Mike Lee, Harold Bass, Richard McMillian, Ed Broadway and Walt Knisel served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Grace Baptist Church in Tifton.

Born November 25, 1929, in Geneva County, Alabama, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Edgar Johnson and Rose Bell Jones Johnson. He was also preceded in death by one son, Mickey Powell "Jim" Johnson. Before retiring, he was an auto salesman and president of J&J Auto Sales, Inc. in Tifton and an employee of Larry Johnson Motor Company, Inc.in Tifton. He was ordained as a deacon at Belmont Baptist Church in Tifton in 1983; and he was a current member of Grace Baptist Church in Tifton. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the Army Reserves.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Willa Dean Parrish Johnson of Tifton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry and Patricia Johnson and Eddie Johnson, both of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ben Smith of Orlando, Florida; two grandchildren, Milton Johnson and Celeste Johnson, both of Tifton; four step-grandchildren, Scott Brady, Kandy Branch, Misty Luke and Jeremy Luke, all of Tifton; four great-grandchildren, all of Tifton; and several nieces and nephews.
