Obituary

Harry J. Walker, Sr, 79, of Worcester, transitioned from Earth to Glory on Tuesday, June 11th a month before his 80th birthday, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his wife of 43 years, Carolyn (Warren) Walker; his children, Tyrone J. Walker, and Harry J. Walker, Jr. both of Worcester, Cassandra E. Smith of Jamaica Plain, MA, Ramona G. Burns of Los Angeles, CA, Tyra A. Walker of Worcester, and Saundra Y. Warren-Givens (Fred III) of Teaneck, NJ; his siblings, Ralph A. Moore, Sr. of Worcester, Annie M. Baynes of Willingboro, NJ, Ruby J. Pope and Linda J. Golding of Cleveland, OH, Doris J. Burns of Worcester; brothers-in-law Robert E. Smith and Todd M. Smith, sister-in-law Priscilla A. Smith, seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family in North Carolina. Sadly, he is predeceased by his son, Rahsan A. Warren of Worcester, MA; sister, Mary F. Greene of Charlotte, NC, and grandson Sakari J. Walker of Worcester, MA.
Harry was born and raised in Worcester, the son of the late James W. and Mattie C (née Johnson) Walker. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1962. From a young age, he committed his life to Christ, a faith he carried with him throughout his journey. He was a cherished member of Belmont Street A.M.E. Zion Church and the Quinsigamond Lodge of Elks #173.
Harry dedicated much of his professional life to Felter's Company, where he worked as a master machinist until its closure in 1996. Following this, he served the Worcester Public Schools with pride and diligence as a custodian, retiring in 2012.
Harry found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved walking and reading the newspaper, and he treasured his monthly lunch outings with his longtime friend, Louie. He also looked forward to traveling to watch his grandsons play football each fall. In his prime, he was a good pitcher and enjoyed candlepin bowling. Harry was very laid back and enjoyed watching Westerns and sports on TV, and listening to music. Most of all, he valued spending time with family. Tuesdays were especially dear to him as his baby sister Doris prepared his favorite meals.
Harry was truly loved. His humor, wisdom, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of laughter, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who had the privilege of sharing in his life.
Calling hours are Friday, June 21st from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
