Norma W. (Hills) Smith, age 99, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the former wife of the late Arthur F. Smith.
Born in London, England on May 16, 1925, she was the loving daughter of the late William H. and Dizal M. (Soames) Hills.
Norma was proud to have grown up and been educated in London, where she also worked in domestic service. At the age of twenty-one, she began a new journey, moving to the Untied States and settling in Erie, Pennsylvania. Norma was a devoted homemaker to her treasured family, whom she loved dearly and had also been employed in the medical billing department field.
In 1996, Mrs. Smith moved to Mansfield to live with her son and his family. While being a resident of Mansfield, she was well engaged as member of the Mansfield Council on Aging, making many new friends and thoroughly enjoying herself. An avid reader, Norma was a member of the Oakleaf Drive Book Club and a former member of the Mansfield Emblem Club. Ever-so-proud of her English Heritage, her hobbies also included knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her devoted children: Malcolm R. Smith and his wife Roberta of Mansfield, with whom she made her home, Peter J. Smith and his wife Marie of Erie, Pennsylvania, Michael A. Smith and his wife Patricia of Dewey, Arizona, Patrick V. Smith of Austin, Texas, Paul W. Smith of Springfield, Missouri, Pamela J. Grunzel and her husband David of Erie, Pennsylvania and the late Cecelia A. Lostroh. She was the dear sister of John Hills and his wife Carys of England and Marjorie Mulvie of England. She is also survived by her cherished 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as her loving nieces and nephews.
There will not be any services at this time for Norma and visiting hours are omitted.
In accordance with her love for the Mansfield Council on Aging, Norma would be happiest knowing that donations in her memory are being made to “Friends of the Council on Aging”, 255 Hope Street, Mansfield, MA 02048.
