Doris M. Colleran passed away peacefully Thursday, June 13th at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center of Medford. She was 91. Born in Woburn and raised in Somerville, Doris was the daughter of the late Leo and Irene (Morse) Fay.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. A long-time Somerville resident, Doris worked for many years caring for the students with Somerville Public Schools. She was known as a kind woman. In her later years she came to live in Medford. When not in Somerville, Doris and her husband James could be found in Salisbury, where the family had a summer home for many years. In her retirement, Doris spent her winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. In her free time she had fun doing arts and crafts, playing cards and bingo. Doris was one of the Red Hat Ladies and enjoyed socializing with them. Time with her family and friends is what gave Doris her greatest joys.
The beloved wife of the late James Colleran, who passed away in 2014, Doris was a devoted mother to Timothy Colleran and his late wife Leslie, James Colleran and his wife Justine, John Colleran and his wife Debbie, David Colleran and his wife Claudette, Jenneen Pagliaro and her husband Mark, Stephanie Chiappini and her late husband Peter, the late William Colleran, and the late Leo Colleran. She was a loving grandmother to her 17 grandchildren: Timothy Jr., Jonathan, Jennifer, Jodi, Joseph, James, Ashley, Lindsay, Frankie, Robert, Kathryn, Alex, David, Anthony, Paula, William, and Ashley. Doris was a dear sister to the late Maydelle Doherty and is survived by many beloved great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Doris’ funeral on Friday, June 21st at 10 AM from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Saint Clement Church, 64 Warner St., Medford. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 20th from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
