Obituary

Evelyn (Bacherman) Ponn was born in Peabody, MA to Harry and Jenny Bacherman, immigrants from Russia. Evelyn lived most of her life in Peabody with her husband, Abe and their two children, Sandra and David, until Abe took her out of Peabody and they moved to Middleton. Evelyn was a proud graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1949 and Salem Teachers College (now known as Salem State University), where she received a Masters Degree and had a short teaching career in Peabody. Evelyn was an active member of Temple Ner Tamid in Peabody, becoming the first female vice president. Evelyn is survived by her sister, Annabelle Swartz, her children, Sandra (Ponn) Rosenbaum Kramer and husband Gary, David Ponn and wife Lynne, her grandchildren Brett (Hannah) Ponn, Jeremy (Meredith) Ponn, Sara (Daniel) Marcq, Craig (Sari) Rosenbaum and Tyler and Brady Mills and her great grandchildren Alec and Jack Marcq, Griffin, Margaret and Abram Ponn, Aaron Rosenbaum, and McKinley Ponn and by her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Abraham Ponn, her sister, Marion Marcus, her brother, Edward Bacherman and her son in law, Alan Rosenbaum. Much love and gratitude go out to her caregivers, Jane Nakacwa, Josefina Velez and Caren Turner. Services in her memory will be held at Temple Ner Tamid, 368 Lowell Street, Peabody MA, on Sunday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maple Hill Cemetery in Peabody. Shiva observance will be held at Temple Ner Tamid on Sunday, June 16 from 1:00 to 5:00PM, continuing on Monday, June 17 from 1:00-3:00 PM and 5:00-8:00 PM and Tuesday, June 18 from 5:00-8:00PM at the home of David and Lynne Ponn.
