CHICOPEE – Gerard A. “Skip” George, 72, of the Ferry Lane section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, June 10, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on April 6, 1952, a beloved son of the late Hector G. George who was Called Home on May 4, 1970 and Therese Y. (Daignault) George who was Called Home on December 4, 2005. He was raised in Chicopee, Graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a Supervisor at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station in Vernon, Vermont and retired on July 20, 2016. He was a member of the International Association of Heat, Frost, and Asbestos Insulators Local Union 6 and Chicopee Elks Lodge 1849. He also was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a longtime communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee. Skip enjoyed over 30 years of vacations to his favorite place, Ogunquit, Maine. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and attending his granddaughter’s sporting events. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Nancy A. (Fiore) George. They were married on May 26, 1990 and were blessed with over 34 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving and devoted daughter, Stacy A. McKeone and her husband, Gary, of East Hartford, CT; his granddaughter who was his pride and joy, Gianna Rose McKeone; Nancy’s son, Brandon J. Dolan of Chicopee; his aunt and uncle, Claire and Ernie Laflamme and their family, of Chicopee; his sister in law, Judy J. Kacmarcik of Enfield, CT; his two nieces, Kristin Kacmarcik and her husband, Jacob, of Florida and Stephanie Kacmarcik and her fiance, Steve, of West Suffield, CT; and his many cousins, extended family members and friends. He also leaves his longtime neighbors who were like family to him, Darryl and Lynn MacDonald and their son, Keith, all of Chicopee. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear uncle and aunt, Alfred and Gloria George. His family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Baystate Hospice for their compassion and care. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
