Obituary

Marie Adina Sejour Occelus, 78, passed away on June 7, 2024, succumbing to a stroke that happened on January 21, 2011. Passing on peacefully in her home at 9:30 AM, surrounded by family.

Born on February 1, 1946, in the Drouyard countryside of Croix des Bouquet, Haiti, to Mrs. Clairemelie Marcelus Sejour and Mr. Oristaine Sejour, Marie was a devoted wife-, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and a pillar of her family.

Marie married the love of her life, Genel Occelus, on April 11, 1970. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children John, Juna, Adeline, and Jeems. Her grandchildren enriched Marie's life: Dickinson, Sam, Ruth, Ginaldo, Vedeline, Billardo, Deng, Rodelie, Tabitha, and Emmanuela.

Marie was a dedicated member of Eglise Baptiste de Lascahobas, where she grew up, and actively participated in the church’s choir. And would later become a member of the First Haitian Church of Boston, in the summer of 2001. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her.

Known for her kind-hearted, loving, and considerate nature, Marie was a resilient woman who always put her family first. She was deeply involved in family activities and greatly supported and nurtured her loved ones.

Marie is survived by her husband, Genel; her children John, Juna, Adeline, and Jeems; her grandchildren Dickinson, Sam, Ruth, Ginaldo, Vedeline, Billardo, Deng, Roseliy, Tabitha, and Emmunla; great-grandchildren Jeremiah and her siblings Lucienne Sejour, Joel Sejour, Clautide Sejour, Venise Sejour, and Anel Sejour.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on June 22, 2024, at the First Haitian Baptist Church of Boston, with a viewing from 8:30-9:30 AM.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered support and condolences during this difficult time. Marie's legacy of faith, love, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Viewing hours will be on Saturday June 22, 2024 from 8:30-9:30 AM followed by a Religious Service from 9:30-11:30 AM in the First Haitian Baptist Church, 397 Blue Hill Ave, Dorchester, MA.
Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 427 Cummins Highway, Roslindale, MA.
