BUXTON- Maurice Eugene Barnett, age 67, passed away on June 9, 2024, at his home in Buxton with his daughter by his side. Maurice battled with cancer for years with minimal suffering and is now at peace in heaven with his wife Michele, and son Eric.
He was born in Island Falls, Maine, on August 2, 1956, a son of the late William T. Barnett Sr. and Cecilia Bernadette (Colberg) Barnett. He graduated from Katahdin High School and went on to join the Army. After returning from the Army, he eventually welcomed his first born, Eric Barnett, and soon after met the love of his life, Michele (Lefebvre). Married in 1990 and having their daughter, Mariah Jo Barnett, in 1994, Maurice then began building their home in Buxton.
He ran his own construction business for years until retirement, having made many friends along the way. Outside of construction and woodworking Maurice enjoyed spending time outdoors and soaking up the company of family and friends, which were plenty as he made genuine connections with everyone he met.
Maurice was predeceased by his mother and father Bill and Ceil Barnett, his son Eric Barnett, his sister Karen Barnett, his half-brother Reggie Hartford, and his devoted wife Michele (Lefebvre) Barnett.
He is survived by his daughter, Mariah Jo Barnett, his brother Michael Barnett and wife Angela, brother Peter Barnett and wife Candy, brother William (Billy) Barnett and wife Mary, and all his nieces and nephews, which are many.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 22, at Chad E. Poitras Cremation & Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt.22), Buxton. Visiting hours will be 2 - 3 PM, with the service at 3 PM officiated by his friend and pastor, David Porter, and an open invitation for anyone who wishes to join us for a reception at the house after the service.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that anyone willing carry on his memory by paying it forward to someone in need, as Maurice was always someone to lend a helping hand to anyone, anytime.
