Ruth (Maciel) Ventura, 81, of New Bedford died July 20, 2006 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Antone R. Ventura.
Born in Chilmark, the daughter of the late John and Helen (Marshall) Maciel, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed arts, crafts and dancing.
Survivors include 3 sons, Michael Ventura of Las Vegas, Ricky Ventura of Worcester and Edward Ventura of Acushnet; 9 daughters, Theresa Vassallo of Wappingers Falls, NY, Diane Geanogeruso of Nutley, NJ, Emily Leblanc and June Ventura, both of Worcester, Sandra Westgate of Acushnet, Kathleen Costa, Ruth Medeiros and Rose Raposa, all of New Bedford, and Rita Bradley of Freetown; 2 brothers, James Maciel of Freetown and Donald Maciel of California; 4 sisters, Hilda Jordan and Rita Demoranville, both of Fairhaven, and Esther Bumpus and Diane Drew, both of New Bedford; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Antone Ventura and Alvin Ventura and the sister of the late William, Raymond, Richard, Anthony, Elton and John Maciel and Helen Gauthier.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at 11:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, July 24th from 7-9 PM.
