It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Francis Carswell, who departed this world on June 8, 2024, at the age of 85. Richard was a beloved friend, dedicated professional, and an inspiring individual whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Born on February 9, 1939, in Glen Ridge New Jersey. Richard lived a life filled with remarkable achievements and contributions. From 1956 to 1960, he proudly served his country as an Electronic Technician in the U.S. Air Force. His service was marked by a commitment to excellence and a deep sense of duty, values that he carried with him throughout his life.
Richard's career was distinguished by his tenure at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, where he served as an engineering team leader and branch manager from 1972 until his retirement in 1997. His leadership and expertise were instrumental in advancing naval technology and operations, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Beyond his professional achievements, Richard was a man of many passions and interests. He was known for his love of technology and innovation, always eager to explore and understand the latest advancements. He was an avid reader and loved to garden.
Richard was a devoted family man and a loyal friend. He is survived by Patricia M. Corcoran and Richard J. Carswell, his son in law Brian T. Corcoran and his beloved grandchildren, Brian J. Corcoran and Daniel R. Corcoran. He is also survived by his sisters, Diane O'Connor and Judy Bevere. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support were the cornerstones of his relationships, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. He is also remembered by his ex-wife, Alice Carswell, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Animal Services Foundation of Ventura County in Richard’s name, continuing his legacy of giving and support to animals.
Richard Francis Carswell will be remembered for his extraordinary life, his dedication to his country, his passion for technology, and his love for his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
